Okay, let's get cracking! I'm going to cover a big bunch of stuff in this mini-course, but I'm going to make it absolutely super-simple. There's so much humbug and nonsense written and spoken about marketing, it makes most small business owners feel it's something they need a College Degree to be any good at it.

Yep, pretty typical of the kind of stuff you'll see on all over the web, not only does it look beautiful but there's music as well!. In fact, go take a look at a number of web sites now and you'll see what I mean?

A BLUR of sameness!

Pretty pictures of lovely looking graphics. And you know what they amount to? Nothing more than expensive, oversized

Business Cards!

You see, they just don't sell anything. There's no offer, no guarantee, no headline, no testimonials...in fact, there's not a single thing in these pages...or just about any web page you see 99% of the time ...that compels the reader to pick up the phone right, fill in a form or buy right on now!

It's just dreary, bland image advertising.

Yet that's what the 'creatives' at the web ad agencies, and their henchmen, the graphic designers, would rather you spend your hard-earned money on. Why?

Because you can't measure the response!

And the last thing they want is for you to be able to measure how well that expensive website is doing for you...'cos next year, they'll be able to bully you into spending money on a BETTER graphics more moving pictures and sound. Sure, that'll work...NOT!

(If the pretty website didn't work, simply multiplying the prettiness isn't going to make it work any better, just cost more!)

No wonder most website owners - come to think of it, just about any small business owner - groan when I ask them how much business their website actually brings them.

Sure, if you have a bank balance the size of Microsoft's, or Ikea's, or Coke's, do web branding.

The people who sell you web branding, know nothing about how to write an web sites that get high rankings, loads and traffic that compels your prospect to pick up the phone, fill in a form or press a Buy Now Button NOW and take the action you want then to. 'direct response' internet marketing.

Direct response internet marketing is just website, e-mail message or pay per click ad that calls for an immediate response, one you can measure. You know, you've seen the ads on TV, "CALL NOW!" That's direct response. Why do you keep seeing it everywhere (except 99% of the web industry)? Because it WORKS!

I'm going to get into the detail of Direct response internet marketing in the next step, but here's a summary of what I've been talking about in Step #1:

  • Don't do 'brand' or 'image' web marketing - it's expensive, and you can't easily measure the results. In fact, it's toxic for small businesses who need to watch every dollar.
