  • Only ever do marketing you can measure...and that's Direct Response. Branding or image marketing should be as a by-product of direct response, not the other way around.

  • Market to your own clients first (once you have your list). It's much, much cheaper to get your existing clients to buy something than it is to get a new client.

  • When you use direct response do it more than once. If you don't, you're leaving untold cash uncollected. It's just dumb to mail only once.

  • Whatever the media you use to deliver your message, you've got to have certain crucial elements in it:

  • a Headline - one that offers an immediate, tangible benefit to the customer
  • an OFFER - and it's not the name of your business. (Dump your business name to the bottom of the website with a picture. It's only important to you, not the customer)
  • a Guarantee - reverse the risk so you take it, not the customer. Back yourself.
  • Scarcity - no point in making a great offer if there's no incentive to call NOW
  • Testimonials - what your customer says about you matters. What you say about you doesn't.

Armed with that knowledge, you can...should...be able to shape or re-shape your website offer to get more and more people onto your list, which is the way to make money.  You still have a lot of thinking to do...and an awful lot of web building to do...

OK How to use pay per click Advertising to generate traffic right away.

When I say right away I mean in about thirty minutes from now. Go!!

Seriously that is how fast it can be.

No doubt you have heard of Goolge. Yes Good.

Well you may or may not have heard of Google Adwords and Yahoo Search Marketing.

Well basically they are the online equivalent of classified ads, but on steroids.

I am sure you have see them on the right hand side of the page when you do a Google Search with a little notice that says Google Advertisment.

OK  Now listen up,  I am a Google Adwords Nut.  I love them.  Why - Research, low costs and effectiveness.

Let me break that down.  If you went and asked any research company to do some research on how many people were looking for your thing.  It will cost you at least $10,000 and take months.  For about $500 in advertising costs and $500 of my costs I can do the same for you in as little as 48 hours.

Now?  Simple I put up a Landing Page, Put up 5 Ads, put in some keywords and very quickly could tell you if your idea would fly. OK this is simple for me, I would not try this at home without some experience.  If fact in every case apart from my own first trial I made a profit out of these test.  But no more about that now, apart from saying that is why its exciting.  I can test something for pennies on the dollar and have the result in a fraction of the time it normally takes.

Next.  Low Cost.  Well first lets be exact to some low costs is $0.05 to others its $50.00 per whatever.  But whatever it is I can tell you its probably a lot lower than what you are doing at the moment to get new clients.  And I can turn it on and off at the flick of a switch.  Got too much business - happens a lot to my client and they can not cope - Turn the ads off.  Not got enough business. Press the Full Power Button.  Now its difficult to do that with most other mediums apart from one other that I use.

Finally Effectiveness.  What I mean there is that these little ads can be very effective at getting new clients, sales or whatever with a direct nexus between the cause and effect.  What exactly does that mean? Well that's the next section.

Knowing what your traffic States are telling you.

In SBI there a a number of places that you can see where you are getting traffic from, what it is doing and by aligning your sales figures with those let you understand your return on investment.

You have already heard me talk about split testing, the get thing about the web is that is really easy.  You will learn about that in a few sentences.

OK.  Simple FACT: If you are not counting it you are not managing it.

The brilliant thing about the web is that is measures everything for you.  What I am referring to here is that you can see how many vistors your get to your site, daily, weekly and monthly - (you can get by minute but that's too much).  You can see how many of those visitors turn into people on your list.  Using Google Adwords Tracking you can see how many people who clicked on your landing page signed up to become a member of your list.

Now that is power.  No - Sorry I forgot to ask were the lead came from or No I do not know if they found us in the Yellow Pages. 

So now you can measure your effectiveness its important to know the rest of your numbers.

This is best taken with a real life example of a retail client of mine who sells services.

For every 12 enquires she get she sells to 10 of them at an average of $165
For every 100 people she provides a service for she gets a 85% rebooking rate
Every Rebooking is worth $100 per month

So let's keep  this simple for 12 Enquires 10 bookings, for 10 bookings 8.5 repeats

Show me the money.  Right now lets put that in cash terms

12 Enquires = (10 x $180)+(8.5x12x$100)

= $12,000 or $1,000 per enquiry

So lets say that this client makes a 45% gross margin after cost of goods sold.

So each client is worth $450

or 12 x $450 = $5,400 for 12

Now you should be able to do similar calculations with your business.

So you can now see how much up could spend on getting a new client.

So that concludes the whole mini course.

It all works there are no secrets left untold.  But you do have to do it.  You see I say that because I talk to a lot of people, a lot of which become clients, who think that buying the web site is the thing.  Its not, that would be like saying buying a exercise bike is the thing, now you are gong to loose weight.  Sorry does not work that way.  Also I get clients who have bought the site and done some work, but things are still not cracking.  Well that's like buyiny the exercise bike and using it a bit but not pushing yourself.
